About Sean

Sean Watkin’s debut crime thriller, Black Water Rising, is available now from Canelo publishing and was shortlisted for the McDermid Debut Award 2025 at the Theakston Old Peculier Crime Writing Festival.

Sean’s second novel in the DCI de Silva Crime Thriller series, Better Off Dead, was released on 22 January 2026, with the third book in the series coming in September 2026.

Sean is an author and internal communications specialist from England. He grew up in Liverpool and studied a BA and an MA in Creative Writing at Liverpool John Moores University, where he began work on his debut novel.

He has been short-listed for the Bristol Short Story Prize, Fresher Writing Prize, and the Book a Break Prize, has guest-lectured with undergraduate and MA Creative Writing students, and teaches writing courses in the community.

He currently lives in Liverpool.
