The Early Chapters Consultation service focuses on reviewing your first three chapters to identify any foundational craft issues before they affect the rest of your manuscript.
This is not a plot consultation. Instead, this assessment is designed to strengthen your technical storytelling skills and help you develop a solid writing foundation.
Who is this service for?
This service is ideal for writers who want to improve their craft by receiving professional-level feedback early on in their writing process. You may feel that something isn’t quite working but you can’t identify what it is, or you may have a story to tell but you’re unclear whether you have the craft skills to do it.
This service is not for those writers seeking plot development advice, or those who want line edits or proofreading.
What feedback will bring provided?
The feedback I will provide will greatly depend on your work, and although the below list is not exhaustive, you will receive detailed feedback on:
- Opening hook effectiveness
- Narrative clarity and flow
- Character introduction
- Dialogue realism
- Sentence structure and readability
- Point of view (POV) consistency
- Show vs. tell
- Description control
- Frame of reference
- Pacing at paragraph and sentence level
- Overwriting and underwriting habits
I’ll cover the things that are working well, which areas of your work need improvement or development, why addressing any issues matter, practical suggestions to fix it. You will be able to apply this craft guidance to the rest of your book.

So as not to over-charge those writers who have shorter opening chapters, I’ve broken down pricing based on the total word count of the submitted first three chapters.

| 9,001 – 12,000 words | £250 |
If your word count exceeds 12,000 words, please contact me directly for an individual quote. Please note that at this length, the structural complexity of a story increases significantly; the service moves from an Early Chapters Consultation into a Partial Manuscript Assessment, and pricing will reflect this shift in scope.
